It is said that approximately 30 million US dollars were spent to promote this movie and 25% of the audience who have gone to watch this movie till date watched this movie only because Sophie Thatcher was in the movie, so is the movie really worth it? Let’s find out.
The story of the movie focuses on Iris and Josh who are a couple and meet their friends to spend some quality time at a lakeside away from the city, but even before Iris meets Josh’s friend, we are told that maybe Josh’s friends may not like Iris and this happens and then slowly and stately we are also told why these people do not like Iris.
The twist in the movie comes when Iris kills one of her friends, a millionaire friend played by talented Rupert Friend, to save herself and then one after the other revelations start that why did all these people come here, now what is revealed and why do people like Iris? Why don’t you like it, this movie explores this story in a very interesting twisty way, its name is “Companion (2025) are you breaking up with me, it’s not you, it’s me,” directed by Do Hancock, whose movie I have not seen before this, but after watching this movie, well I was impressed by his direction.
This movie was released in India on 31st January 2025 and I wanted to watch it on the same day, but here, I mean in Mumbai, during weekends, the price of movie tickets in multiplexes crosses 500-600, brother, I mean simply we can’t afford it, so I thought let’s wait till Monday, when the price will come down, then it will be possible for 150-200, I mean maybe this is the main reason why people do like to go to multiplexes because it is becoming out of budget.
I mean before this I had gone to watch Pushpa 2 with my whole family, I mean I go to watch a movie hardly once a year, there were seven of us with my whole family and after giving a discount of ₹1000000 on the ticket, the final cost on Book My Show was approximately ₹2500000 per person. I paid the fine.
Well, if we have to go to watch the movie once a year, we can at least spend this much. Now, because we go once a year with the family, there should be some popcorn at the interval. And you won’t believe it, I had taken only three popcorns which we shared with two of us and the price of those three popcorns was ₹ 3700, approximately, I mean, it was more than the ticket price.
And then these multiplexes tell us that people don’t come at all, why would they come to watch the movie, I mean the tickets are so expensive and the popcorn is so expensive, that is, the popcorn is more expensive than the tickets, so who will come to watch the movie?
Anyway, the acting role in the movie has been done by Sophie Thatcher, who has worked in many decent must-watch movies till date, such as “Heretic” which is a must-watch that I have already reviewed. You can see its review by clicking here. “Boogie Man” came in 2023 which is again a decent horror movie, and in 2022 her movie “Blink” came out, which I have not seen, but from the trailer it seems that you must watch it once.
Jack Quet is in the movie, whom everyone must know from “The Boys” series. The pair of these two is a very cute couple in the beginning, and as it happens with most of the cute couples, in the end, they end up hating each other. In this movie, we see the same thing happening.
I do not want to give any spoilers of the movie, I mean whatever is shown in the trailer is a spoiler of the movie somewhere and I do not want to talk to you about that too so that this movie is not spoiled for you. Still, I will try to keep this review interesting. There are many twists in the movie, and all these twists are about AI i.e. Artificial Intelligence. Lately, a lot of Hollywood movies on AI are being made and almost every movie has only one lesson in the end: AI is dangerous.
Recently, in “Mission Impossible: Dead Rogue,” AI becomes so advanced that it is differentiable. It is taken a step further by asking, what will happen if the AI itself does not know that it is an AI. If you watch the movie carefully, a human element has been removed in it, and that is human loneliness. No one wants to live alone; they need some companion, which is the title of the movie, and this movie explores that.
A movie named “Her” came out in 2013 about this same issue, in which Joaquin Phoenix worked. It is an amazing movie. If you have not seen it, then definitely watch it. At that time, there was no trace of AI, but I think many people predicted that AI was coming, and that movie was made in 2013 itself.
Jack Quet and Sophie Thatcher will definitely impress you with their acting skills in the movie. The movie is a bit slasher and also a comedy. With lots of twists, the movie is 1 hour and 40 minutes long and is totally entertaining. Now, because I had seen the trailer of this movie before watching the movie, which again was quite interesting but somewhere had some spoilers, if you have not seen the trailer of this movie yet, please do not watch it. Watch the movie directly; you will enjoy it more.
So, keeping all these things in mind, I will rate this super movie 7 out of 10. Friends, I hope you liked this review. Thanks for reading this article.
